一首limerick，就是一種最簡單英語詩詞的形式，一共有五行，對押韻要求非常好，一定要有豐富的詞彙，和句型轉換的能力，才能寫詩。

第一行和第二行：第一行和第二行，每行都八個音節，第一行的最後一個音節韻腳要和第二行最後一個音節韻腳一致。一般，他們組成一個完整的句子。如Niger和tiger韻腳都是ger。

第三行和第四行：每行可以有五個音節或六個音節，第三行的最後一個音節韻腳要和第四行最後一個音節韻腳一致，一般，他們也組成一個完整的句子，不是逗號，分號結尾。inside和ride韻腳都是ide。

第五行：第五行同樣有八個音節，他最後一個音節的韻腳要和第一行和第二行音節韻腳一致，是一個句子。 tiger,ger，又和第一行和第二行押韻了。

PS：看一個單詞有多少音節一般可以看有多少個元音發音，比如apple就只有一個元音在發音，一個音節；pencil,e和i，就要兩個元音發音，兩個音節。但是也有例外，比如meadow，看着有三個音節但是ea發音在一起，就只有兩個音節。

三、英語詩歌的體式

有的詩分成幾節（stanza），每節由若干詩行組成（每行詩均以大寫字母開頭）；有的詩則不分節。

death be not proud

【 詩歌賞析 】

在感情的表達上，他的詩歌力求避免感傷情調，把感情容入“玄思”之中，因此，倍受英美現代派詩人的推崇。

多恩寫過一些宗教詩。在這些詩歌中，他探索自己的內心世界，表達他對宗教，乃至人生的看法。《死亡，不要驕傲》正是這類詩歌中的一首。

這是一首意大利體的十四行詩。詩的起句突兀，表達了對死神的嘲笑和蔑視。死亡是人生的終結，許多人對死亡表現出極度的恐懼，把死亡同黑暗的地獄聯繫在一起。然而，在多恩看來，死亡並沒有什麼可怕之處。他把死亡看作睡眠，看作是通向“永遠覺醒”的必經之路。死亡只是從有限的生命通向永恆的過程。這種思想並非多恩特有，因爲在莎士比亞的《哈姆雷特》“生存還是死亡”這一著名的內心獨白中，莎士比亞也曾根據西方人的宗教思想把死亡比作睡眠，但是，把死神作爲無能而又自傲的形象進行如此淋漓盡致的譏諷，恐怕只有出現在多恩的作品中。

這首詩說理多於抒情。從詩的結構來看，第一、二行“死亡，不要驕傲，雖然有人說你/強大而又可怖，而你並不真的這樣”，是論點，而第二行到第八行是論據，說明死亡沒有什麼可怕，死亡同睡眠沒有多少不同，都可以使人“獲得身體的休息，靈魂的解脫”。第九、十行指出死神的無能，而第十一、二行說明死神並沒有什麼獨特之處，沒有什麼可資驕傲的理由。這四行進一步提供論據，來支援詩人的論點。第十三、四行則是結論。雖然這首詩有很強的論說性，但表達了詩人對死神的蔑視 和無畏之情。情與理的結合使詩本身具有有說服力，而比喻的運用使這篇說理的詩生動。整個詩作鏗鏘有力，富於陽剛之氣.，
